SERIAL NO. 5; Rinse and Repeat

Meanwhile, Phoenix sure isn’t doing that great, in his starched white shirt with the stiff collar and all the people shaking his grandma’s hand and patting his head. He scans the crowd for his friend Lucas but doesn’t see him, so he stuffs his hand deeper into his pant pocket, twirling a piece of thread from the pocket’s inside lining around his index finger, tighter and tighter. Earlier, grandma made him scrub his hands in the sink real good, but he thought his hands were just fine. Grandma said it was wrong for him to touch Daddy but he just wanted to trace that purple necklace around Daddy’s neck…
